TAGBILARAN CITY, BOHOL | February 4, 2026 — Schools Division Superintendent Rommel C. Bautista, CESO V, of the Department of Education (DepEd) Region IV-A (CALABARZON), actively participated in the Gawad Teodora Alonzo 2025 Recognition Rites held at Bohol Tropics Resort, Tagbilaran City, Bohol, where he highlighted the creativity and literacy advocacy of the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Quezon.
During the national recognition rites, SDS Bautista’s children’s storybook entry, “Pangarap Kong Pulang Sumbrero,” was selected as one of the ReadEx Picks, earning national recognition for its contribution to children’s literature and creative storytelling. The culminating event brought together education leaders, writers, and literacy advocates from various regions of the country.
The Gawad Teodora Alonzo 2025, themed “Kinaiyahan,” honored outstanding contributors to children’s literature and creative storytelling whose works promote imagination, cultural appreciation, and a sustained love for reading among learners.
SDS Bautista’s participation underscored his strong support for creative writing as a vital component of literacy development. He has consistently emphasized that storytelling not only strengthens reading proficiency but also cultivates critical thinking, values formation, and a deeper appreciation of Filipino culture and identity among learners.
Beyond his role as an advocate, SDS Bautista also exemplified creative leadership by contributing his own literary work to the national exhibit. His engagement demonstrated that education leaders can actively participate in creative pursuits, serving as role models who inspire teachers and learners to embrace writing as a meaningful form of expression.
Through his participation and contribution, SDS Bautista proudly represented SDO Quezon on the national stage, reinforcing the division’s commitment to advancing DepEd literacy programs and promoting a strong culture of reading and storytelling across schools and communities.
