In a show of excellent writing tradition, all the three campus journalists who represented DepEd Quezon stood out as the country’s bests during the recently concluded National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) held in Carcar City Cebu, while a Grade 9 Special Program for Foreign Language – Korean (SPFL-K) joined this year’s elites in the National Festival of Talents (NFOT) Lingo Stars writing competition held in Naga City Cebu.
Both events were held simultaneously on July 8-12, 2024.
Maria O. Abe of Gumaca West Central School was part of the CALABARZON’s composite team in Radio Scriptwriting and Broadcasting in English Elementary that brought home the following awards: 3RD Best Radio Production, 2nd Best Infomercial, and 5th Best Script. April Lyn Ignacio served as Abe’s coach.
In a related event, James Bryant T. Rustia of Talipan National High School and Rhayzell Ann A. Verga of Quezon National High School won 2nd Best Script in Radio Scriptwriting and Broadcasting Filipino- Secondary. Jerwin S. Tierra (TNHS), and Ian Benedict A. Roxas (QNHS) were the coaches.
Ang Niyog, the official School Paper of Quezon National High School was adjudged 3rd best School Paper of the Philippines, 1st place best news page, and 5th place best in editorial page; while Taga-Recto, the school paper of Recto Memorial National High School was named 4th best in editorial page. Ang Niyog was the only school paper from CALABARZON (secondary level) that penetrated the top 5 best school papers of the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Alyzabeth Kiersten F. Gutlay from the Special Program in Foreign Language Korean of Quezon NHS was hailed as NFOT Champion in Lingo Stars, Korean Writing Category. With her during the event were Eloisa Ramento (coach) and Vanessa Ellaga (SPFL-K coordinator).
