Lucban, Quezon Province—SDO QUEZON hosted the 2024 Regional Festival of Talents (RFOT) with the theme “Galing, Talino, at Husay ng mga Batang Makabansa sa Diwa ng Matatag na Adhika”, with its opening program conducted at Paaralang Elementarya ng Lucban (PEL) - 1 covered court, April 23, 2024.
The event was held in the Art Capital of Quezon, the municipality of Lucban. It was attended by guests, school heads, facilitators, coaches, and participants from the 23 Divisions in Region IV-A CALABARZON.
The opening salvo of the Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) Sinag Banahaw Dance Troupe awed the participants with rose petals and flower crown in the “Putungan” of guests and leaders, followed by the Pahiyas San Isidro Festival-inspired performance of the Lucban Pahiyas Dance Troupe under the training of Mr. Carlo N. Ellaga.
The program formally started with the Philippine National Anthem led by the Lucban Academy Senior High School Choir conducted by Mr. Celo Sales, and followed by an inter-religious prayer for people of different dominations, the CALABARZON March, Lalawigan ng Quezon, and Lucban Paraiso Kong Bayan.
Municipal Mayor Hon. Agustin M. Villaver delivered his welcome remarks, representing the local government unit of Lucban that also prepared for the warm welcome and hosting of the event in support of the program of the Department.
Quezon Schools Division Superintendent Rommel C. Bautista who similarly accepted the request of hosting the RFOT 2023, shared his insights to use this event to harness not only the students’ skills and talents, but also especially their attitude, so they can be prepared for future endeavors.
“I think we should change the KSA [Knowledge, Skills, Attitude] into ASK (Attitude, Skills, Knowledge] since attitude should always come first,” he said concluding his speech with a challenge: “Where do we go from here?”
Gov. Doktora Helen Tan represented by Executive Assistant John Francis Lozano greeted everyone with a warm message, promoting the youth’s patriotism or being “Maka-bansa.” Atty. Alberto T. Escobarte, Regional Director of DepEd IV-A CALABARZON, also shared a meaningful message towards achieving success.
Opening the event officially, Lucban Pahiyas Dance Troupe continued their performance. Then, Loida N. Nidea, Asst. Regional Director, declared the RFOT 2024 open.
Another intermission number from the Magic of Music left the audience in awe with their rendition of the song “Shine”, followed by the presentation of the RFOT events by the Chief Education Supervisor of CLMD, Viernalyn M. Nama, who disussed the schedules and settings of various categories.
Hosted by Divine Ella and Dominic Almirez, the opening program was concluded with the Finale Unity Dance from the Lucban Pahiyas Dance Troupe.
The 2024 RFOT has officially started and will culminate with a closing program on April 26, 2024.
