Student Publications across DepEd Quezon bagged multiple awards during the BayLayn (Para sa Bayan at Lasalyano) 2024, with Ang Niyog and Ang Talipeño being hailed as Best School Papers out of 48 publications of private and public schools all over Luzon and Visayas.
The official publication of Quezon National High School, Ang Niyog, emerged as Pinakamahusay na Publikasyong Pangmag-aaral after winning 1st place in Pinakamahusay na Pahina ng Lathalain, 2nd place in Pinakamahusay na Pahina ng Isports, Pinakamahusay na Koleksyon ng Larawan, as well as Pinakamahusay na Koleksyon ng Dibuho, and 3rd Pinakamahusay na Pahina ng Balita.
Meanwhile, Ang Talipeño of Talipan National High School harvested the 3rd place following its gaining of 1st place in Pinakamahusay na Pahina ng Balita, 2nd Pinakamahusay na Koleksyon ng Dibuho, and 3rd place in Pinakamahusay na Pahina ng Lathalain.
Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF) Candelaria also won 1st Place Pinakamahusay na Pahina ng Isports.
Quezon Press also bagged individual writing awards.
Jolo M. Rubias-Pagsulat ng Balita (Quezon SHS), Zafirah Sadio (Quezon NHS), and Bern Marie Dolindo-Pagkuha ng Lawaran (Gumaca NHS) finished 1st place in their respective categories.
Meanwhile, Annika Julia M. De Torres-Pagkuha ng Larawang Pampahayagan (Quezon SHS), Trish Pantua (Quezon NHS), Jerimy Tronila(Quezon NHS), and Joseph Emmanuel D. Manalo-Pagsulat ng Artikulong Agham(Talipan NHS) won 2nd place.
In addition, Roma Mae Pondare-Pagsulat ng Balita(Gumaca NHS), Rhy Anne Luisa Bermeo-Pagsulat ng Editoryal(Gumaca NHS), Elaizarose Q. Golfo – Pagsulat ng Artikulong Pang-Agham at Teknolohiya(Quezon SHS), and Micaela Sophia Umandap-Pagsulat ng Artikulong Panlathalain(MSEUF) also added awards after attaining 3rd place.
Mr. Jerwin S. Tierra, School Paper Adviser from Talipan NHS served as one of the workshop speakers and judge in Pagsulat ng Balita, while invited media practioners such as Joyce Babe Pañares, the Managing Editor of Manila Standard, and Job Manahan, News Reporter at ABS-CBN, shared insights on sensationalized journalism during the event’s Big Talks.
BayLayn is an annual inter-high school campus journalism workshop and contest that centered on the theme “Sensasyonalismo sa Pamamahayag: Etika at Limitasyon ng Paghahatid ng Balita for this year’s edition.
