Schools Division of Quezon Dolphins Delegation established Learners Protection Rights desk during the 2024 Regional Athletic Meet Association (RAAM), April 5-13.
Iris Mente, SDO Quezon's learner rights and protection desk (LRPD) focal person and a Registered Guidance Counselor, said during an interview Saturday (April 6, 2024) that they established an LRPD to promote safe interaction and fun sports for the estimated 600 learner-athletes who are competing in the 2024 RAAM at Sta. Rosa City Laguna.
"We established a visible desk, headed by Dr. Joan Alejaida-Mauhay, SDO Quezon's Sports Officer, Atty. Rexcia Baldeo, and will be manned by the assigned PDO at the billeting area at Sta. Rosa Science and Technology HIgh School to ensure a safe interaction among athletes and other delegates," he said.
"Ang focus po talaga natin ay ang mga learner-athletes para po sa kanila ito and we really hope that there will be no bullying or other incidents even if the sports competition becomes tough," he added.
The LRPD is mandated under DepEd Memorandum Order 2024-05-00946, emphasizing DepEd’s zero-tolerance policy for any act of learner abuse, exploitation, violence, discrimination, bullying, and other forms of abuse during the sports event.
The LRPD will also assist athletes needing help in tandem with the medical team during the sports events.
Mente appealed to learner-athletes not to get carried by their high emotions and for the trainers and coaches to help promote sportsmanship among their athletes in the entire duration of RAAM 2024. Stress relieving equipment or tools were also prepared by the team at the designated LRP desk to redirect learner-athletes' focus in case an incident arises.
