The Palarong Quezon 2024 officially commenced with a dazzling spectacle of sportsmanship and unity on March 8, 2024, in Atimonan, Quezon. Under the theme "Pinasiglang Isports at Pinalakas na Atletang Quezonian para sa Matatag na Bayan," the opening ceremonies highlighted the passion and determination of the province's young athletes.
The event began with a moving prelude to the National Anthem by Leon Guinto Memorial College, Inc., followed by stirring renditions of the Philippine National Anthem, CALABARZON March, Lalawigan ng Quezon, and Atimonan Aking Bayan by the talented voices of DepEd Quezon Koro Kalilayan. The ceremony kicked off with an electrifying Opening Salvo by select students of Atimonan, setting the tone for the exciting days ahead.
Athletic delegations from the 4 congressional districts were then proudly presented, accompanied by their respective Palaro escorts and muses, showcasing the diversity and unity of Quezon's sports community. Words of welcome were extended by Susana Nera, PSDS of Atimonan 1 District, and Hon. Rustico Joven Mendoza, Mayor of Atimonan, fostering a spirit of hospitality and camaraderie.
One of the highlights of the program was the turnover of the Division Meet Flag from Mulanay District to Atimonan District, symbolizing the passing of the torch to the host district. Hon. Angelina "Doktora Helen" Tan, Provincial Governor of Quezon, delivered an inspirational message emphasizing the importance of collaboration in achieving success and nurturing young talents for the future.
The solemn moment of raising the Division Athletic Association Meet Flag was conducted by Dr. Rommel Bautista, Schools Division Superintendent of DepEd SDO-Quezon, and Hon. Angelina "Doktora Helen" Tan, provincial governor, reaffirming their commitment to promoting sports excellence in the province.
The ceremony reached its peak as the Torch of Unity was brought in, and the Game's Urn was lit by notable athletes Angel Joyce Laude, Irish Llanes, Erich Bianca Torzar, and Liam Zion Cabalu, alongside Mayor Ticoy Mendoza, Congressman Keith Micah "Atorni Mike" Tan (4th District of Quezon) and DepEd Quezon SDS Rommel Bautista. The event was further dignified by the Oath of Amateurism sworn by Liam Zion Cabalu, a distinguished Palarong Pambansa 2023 Gold and Silver Medalist in table tennis.
The declaration of the opening of the Division Athletic Association Meet by SDS Rommel Bautista expressed gratitude to all participants and stakeholders for their unwavering support and dedication, reinforcing the values of teamwork and fair play that define the essence of sportsmanship.
The Palarong Quezon 2024 stands as a testament to the power of sports in uniting communities, fostering talent, and instilling values of discipline and perseverance among the youth. It serves as a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills, build friendships, and inspire the next generation of champions. The importance of such events cannot be overstated, as they contribute significantly to the holistic development of individuals and promote a culture of excellence and sportsmanship towards a "MATATAG" nation.
The signing of the Master Schedule and Technical Guidelines by all Host PSDSs further solidified the commitment to a successful and well-organized event, setting the stage for a thrilling display of athletic prowess and camaraderie throughout the Palarong Quezon 2024.
