To close the learning gaps and assist the K to 12 learners in all public elementary and secondary schools in attaining the learning standards in relation with the National Learning Recovery Plan (NLRP) along the MATATAG: Bansang Makabata, Batang Makabansa agenda of the Department of Education (DepEd), the Schools Division of Quezon Province conducted a capacity building of Grade 7 and 8 teacher-volunteers on the pilot implementation of the National Learning Camp (NLC) at Queen Margarette Hotel, Domoit, Lucena City, July 19-21.
Adopting the policy guidelines outlined in DepEd Order No. 014, s. 2023, the training covered the implementation of the NLC, a voluntary learning recovery program which shall be offered every end-of-school-year (EOSY) break to complement learning efforts in the previous school year and provide a firmer basis for further gains in the upcoming school year. Learners with parental consent shall be enrolled in one of the three Camps according to their specific needs, such as the Enhancement Camp, Consolidation Camp, or Intervention Camp. As defined in the policy, the Enhancement Camp enriches learning for advanced learners by providing greater depth, breadth and complexity of learning area competencies while the Consolidation Camp provides further practice on and application of previously taught competencies. The Intervention Camp, on the other hand, supports learners who are yet to grasp foundational skills.
More than 300 participants attended the three-day capacity building on English, Science and Mathematics. Lectures were delivered, as well as teaching demonstrations, in each of the training classes.
Learning area supervisors Abner Pureza, Carmela Ezcel Orogo and Celestina Alba led the professional development activity, together with members of the technical working committee from select schools in the Division.
The Top Management headed by Dr. Rommel Bautista, Schools Division Superintendent, expressed support to the implementation of this policy so that learning losses brought by the pandemic would be addressed. He thanked the teachers who have opted to dedicate their vacation period to volunteer and teach learners, especially those who need learning interventions.
Assistant Schools Division Superintendents Edward Garcia, Gregorio Mueco, and Herbert Perez were also present, including CID Chief Supervisor Lorena Walangsumbat. Education Program Specialists Regina Marino, Oscar Duma Jr., and Mary Joyce Salamat-Montaña were part of the program management team.
