To improve the performance of SDO personnel in their respective workplace through the provision of gender-sensitive basic reproductive health services, the School Governance and Operations Division (SGOD) through the Adolescent Reproductive Health (ARH) Team of the School Health Section spearheaded a series of activities titled "Gender-Sensitive Health Protocols in the Workplace", which comprised a seminar-workshop for the said personnel, and conduct of cervical cancer screening, such as visual inspection with acetic acid, Pap smear, and Breast Examination, May 25 and June 23.
The seminar-workshop regarding the common reproductive health diseases at Sevilla’s Farm and Resort, Lucena City, was facilitated by resource persons from the Quezon Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) and the School Health Section.
The following topics were discussed: a) Menopause by Dr. Lorelie G. Salongga, FPOGS, MHA, Chief of Health Service Delivery Division and Provincial Health Officer I; b) Cervical Cancer Awareness by Ms. Dianne Marie M. Mejilla, Unit Head of Non-Communicable Diseases Management and Control; c) Breast Cancer Awareness by Ms. Marcela I. Garcia, Provincial Focal Person, Cancer Prevention and Control Program; d) Prostate Cancer by Dr. Jonathan S. Mendoza, FPUA, Medical Specialist II, Urologist from Surgery Department of Quezon Medical Center (QMC); and e) Healthy Measures in the Prevention and Control of Heat Stress in the Workplace by Nurse Dennis Fernando M. De Villa of School Health Section.
Along with the said event was the conduct of the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial 2023, an annual commemoration to remember people who have died of AIDS and to honor the people who have dedicated their lives to help those living with and affected by HIV-positive individuals. This is also the time to raise social consciousness about HIV/AIDS to address stigma and discrimination.
The second part, at SDO Quezon Training Center, was the conduct of cervical cancer screening such as visual inspection with acetic acid, Pap smear, and Breast Examination availed of by 25 female SDO personnel. Dr. Belen T. Garana, OB-Gynecologist, Oncologist, and Head of OB Gynecological Department and Women’s Health Center-QMC, led this activity.
The Top Management was also present. SDS Dr. Rommel C. Bautista delivered an inspiring message on prioritizing health, where everyone was encouraged to grab every opportunity for health services that the School Health Section provides. OIC-ASDS Edward D. Garcia emphasized women’s empowerment and gender sensitivity in the workplace. On the other hand, ASDS Herbert D. Perez commended the proponents for initiating the said advocacy on promoting health among the SDO personnel.
