At least 228 elementary campus journalists,147 elementary school paper advisers, 360 secondary campus journalists, and 96 secondary school paper advisers participated in the recently concluded Division Schools press Conference (DSPC) 2023 held at the Atimonan Central Elementary School on May 20-21.
The said activity was held to choose the delegation team members of DepEd Quezon for the upcoming Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) 2023 which will commence on May 29-June 2, a week after the conduct of DSPC; and to demonstrate learners’ competencies in journalistic writing.
“We have small number of attendees this year. Probably because the notice, specifically the Memorandum was released very late. It was released only last May 5, and school paper advisers from other schools had limited time to prepare,” Mr. Abner Pureza, Education Program Supervisor in English said.
Chief of the Curriculum Implementation Division (CID), Dr. Lorena Walangsumbat, EPS Joan Borines, EPS Maria Dylin Galarosa, EPS Walter Galarosa, and the Vice Mayor of Atimonan graced the opening program while EPS Abner Pureza and EPS Joseph Jarasa were the focal persons along with host district PSDSs Susan Nera and Caridad Grimaldo, and ACES School Head Gerry Grimaldo.
The following individual writing contests were held in the morning- news writing, editorial writing, feature writing, sports writing, and photojournalism; while science writing, copyreading and headline writing, editorial cartooning, and column writing were scheduled in the afternoon of May 20.
Judging of the individual writing contests and school paper entries happened on May 21 to determine the best outputs. All the first-place winners in the individual writing will compose the division delegation to the RSPC scheduled on cluster-based system, while group contest will be held at designated venues in Cavite Province division.
Meanwhile top five school papers per medium, per level, and per page/ category were chosen as DepEd Quezon’s entry in the school paper contest.
There was no actual competition held on group contests (Radio scriptwriting and broadcasting, TV production, collaborative desktop publishing, and online writing), the DSPC management team decided to assign the schools that will compete in the said categories during the RSPC based on their last three year’s performance.
