Unstoppable from the start, Quezon Dolphins Lady Booters eclipsed a 21-14, 21-15 outing to deny Batangas Province’ bid for championship in secondary women’s sepaktakraw in the Regional Athletic Association Meet (RAAM) match for gold held at the San Isidro Covered Court.
Cynthia Polrene Onia gunned for a freewheeling game high output commencing with her 4-0 run in the first set of the match against the Batangas Kickers. Taking the rule of a tekong, Onia had control of the ball in both receiving and attacking departments.
Lovely Joy Vergara, a former Palarong Pambansa player from Batangas stopped the rally and registered the first score for her team, but her teammates Rose Reyes continued to deliver unforced errors in attempts to drench bicycle attacks.
Meanwhile, Charlene Mae Ramirez aided Onia’s explosive head kicks and instep kills mounting 17-9 advantage before Vergara found a sharp drop ball to halt the rally. The first set was closed at 21-14 under the Quezon Lady Booters’ command.
“We just focused on the game. We conditioned our mind and body for it plus we put a little confidence and composure that we can win this match. And yes, we did,” Onia shared.
Quezon lady Booters extended their lead in the second set pounding sole kicks in the offense and service balls that eked out a 21-15 result.
“We concentrated on addressing our weakness, particularly the front defense. We already fixed it and it worked,” coach Orlando Maledeo said.
Other players of the Quezon Lady Booters who are all from Lutucan Integrated National High School are Janelle Ramirez, Trishia Mae Maniebo, and Maria Jhoella Rivera; while Batangas other players include Alyssa Sale, Criza Razon and May katrice Marasigan.
It’s a hello to Palarong Pambansa for the Lutucan-based sepaktakraw women team.
