DASMARIÑAS CITY - Suffering from a sting of 4-point deficit in the first seven minutes, 9-5, Quezon Lady Trio pulled a come-from-behind victory clinching gold medal against Lipa City Maroons in a heat-stricken Sto Niño Gymnasium, April 1.
Alpajora gun for a 4-0 run including two points outside perimeters to put an equalizer to the already confident Lipa Maroons who ruled the first 7 minutes of the regulation.
Alpajora notched 8 points, Bellen and Nopia both shared 5 points, while Regalado added 1 point to register a 19-14 outcome against Lipa.
“We have confidence with the team. We know they can overcome their early deficits. Medyo pressured nga lang during the first minutes then, there was sign of relief when they tied the scores,” coach Chris Escudero said.
“We already studied the moves of Lipa and how we can counter their decisive plays,” coach Escudero added.
It was a crowd-booster for Quezon supporters when Bellen and Alpajora combined their efforts to give Quezon a deadlock at 9-9 from 5-9 with 3:50 minutes remaining. Like a labyrinth opened by a key, Quezon lady Trio blended a perfect formula to control the game gunning a 7-5 run with 43.87 seconds left that nailed the opponent at 14 while they advanced to 19 points apiece.
“We were patient and stayed composed kahit nalalamnangan nila kami sa una. Until we see na we’re so sure we will win it nang makalamang na kami, Alpajora stated.
The Trio will be CALABARZON’s bet for the 3X3 women’s basketball in the forthcoming Palarong Pambansa, 2023. (Story: Abner L. Pureza, EPS/ Photos: Edilbert Cadeliña, MT-I, Atimonan II/ Arjay Oribiana, SST 1-Gumaca NHS.)
