IMUS CITY – DepEd Quezon Dolphin paddler stroke two-time triumph defending her ends in the elimination round that booked a possible championship tilt of Table Tennis Single B-Secondary Level on March 25 in Gov. D.M. Camarino Integrated School.
Ysabelle Esguerra, grade 8 students, represented Quezon Dolphin and gave her best to fight for the most coveted gold medal of Regional Athletic Association Meet 2023. This aspiration gave ger the determination to defeat her contender from Cavite Province, 3-0.
Esguerra did not waste her time and extended her powerful drives, spins, blocks rallied in the beginning of the game that shocked her competitor who failed to return the rally, 11 – 8.
On the second set, Cavite spinner regained her confidence and fought with same strength as Esguerra. Both ends were fervent to return the rally aiming to gain points, but Esguerra’s placing of short ball deceived her opponents action, Esguerra won this set, 11 – 7.
“Napansin ko po kasi na nakikipagsabayan na siya sa lakas ng palo, sa drive at spin. So naisip ko po na kailangan ko siya mautakan. Kaya kapag nakikita kong gigil na siya, bigla kong binibigyan ng short ball,” Esguerra explained.
The game became more exciting in the third set as both competitors were guided with almost the same game tactics, the rally of spins and drives were long. However, Cavite’s faulty drives on backhand hits led Quezon to win the game, 12-10.
In another game, Esguerra’s clash with paddle queen of Dasmariñas City was more crucial as both players demonstarted equal strengths and game plan, however, it was self-control that sealed the deal for Quezon’s pride, 3 - 0.
Rally of fiery drives, back and front spins rallied back and forth the ends of the table, but the tension of both end the set with two deuce, 13 – 11.
Consistently, both lady spinners were fighters, both players changed their game plan in the second set. They just played and enjoyed the long rallies of forehand and backhand, but Esguerra’s edged balls concluded the set, 11-9.
