CAVITE, CITY - Outplayed, Outworked, outlasted!
These are the words that can be associated to Rizal and Gentri Batters as Quezon Blue Dolphins made a masterful demolition over the latter after their gritty encounters in the Game 1 and 2 of the 2023 Regional Athletic Association Meet (RAAM) Softball Elimination Round for Girls Elementary Division, yesterday, at Montano Sports Open Field, Caridad, Cavite City.
Dolphin’s duo Shantal Mhein Robrigado, pitcher, and Rosean B. Armenta, catcher, showed their diamond brilliance after clinching a combined 14 and 15 points in games 1 and 2, respectively.
These phenomenal players from Dolphins started playing softball since grade 3 and only stopped during the pandemic then when the opportunity knocked again, they bounced back heavily and copped the 2023 Provincial Meet Championship and now conquering opponents in the 2023 Regional Athletic Association Meet.
Robrigado and Armenta’s formidable tandem got stronger and seen too much cohesion every time the ball is in play because in their school, they were best of friends and lived in the same community where softball is their pastime.
Meanwhile, other members of the team also showed great defense and offense after tagging out most their opponents that led them to their two consecutive wins against taller and more experienced opponents.
Coach Ryan Olino said that they had barely 3 week-preparation for the sports competition and qualifying to this prestigious event after pandemic is already a win for the team and those two wins were just a bonus for us.
“I just told my players to feel relaxed, focused and just enjoy every game while sticking to our game plan everything will follow smoothly, and so it happened. Don’t you know that one of my players has the first-time experience seeing a bus, since this was also her first time travelling away from the island. For her, this experience and exposure is already a milestone and upon reaching home numerous experiences will be shared-thus made her a more confident young tot.” Mr. Olino added.
“Sa mga susunod pa naming mga games, sabi ko po sa mga bata, andito na tayo kaya tuloy-tuloy lang at huwag na tayong bibitaw. Baon natin ang suporta ng inyong mga magulang, ng ating butihing prisipal, district supervisor at ng buong sampaaralan ng Guinhawa Elementary School, Quezon District.” Another inspiring thought from Mr. Olino.
He also credited the win to the two tough opponents who gave them thrilling battles at the diamond that truly tested the young character of the team. It just so happened that his players gave better performances than the foes.
Finally, he and the team are ready for the third game tomorrow whoever wins in the fifth game since we had scouted their game already. (Story by: RODEL D. BRIONES, Candelaria West).
