TIAONG QUEZON. Unit II’s Paiisa Futsal Team hailed as the champion of the 2023 Palarong Quezon futsal tourney despite falling short to Unit I, with the final score of 2-0, in the final matchup at Paiisa Covered Court, March 5.
Despite losing to UNIT I in the final match, the Paiisa Quickers still secured the gold medal through goal difference.
"Goal difference factor, nanalo kami dito dahil kinuha ang number of goals tapos ibinawas yung nagawang goals ng naging kalaban na team. Sa tatlong laro, nakagawa kami ng 15 goals tapos dahil naka dalawang goal ang kalaban namin kanina, ibinawas ito sa total goals namin. Sa dulo, mas marami kaming nai-shoot,” coach Richard Atienza explained after receiving the team’s gold medal and trophy.
Tricia Anne De Rama, the only player who scored in the whole match with 2 goals, revealed the pressure of facing the Unit II.
"May pinanghawakan lang talaga kami na sa amin lulungkot ang UNIT II," De Rama shared after scoring a brace over the undefeated squad.
Delivering the first goal of the match, De Rama of UNIT I made it in less than 6 minutes of kicks and attempts and it was followed again by another fiery kick.
The first minutes of the match was quite slow for both teams as they struggled to orchestrate an offense through each other’s' defensive patterns, and also due to the great defense on the net delivered by the goalkeepers of both sides.
While the UNIT I enjoys their 2-goal lead, the UNIT II still failed into the groove of the match and struggled to achieve their first goal towards the final minutes of the first and second half, which eventually ended with a score of 2-0 in favor of UNIT I.
With the score of 2-0, the UNIT I was able to kick off the undefeated UNIT II squad in that final match-up, but the remorseful turn of events does not seem to bother the girls of UNIT II as they were still regarded as the gold medalists of the tournament through goal difference.
Coach Atienza of UNIT II revealed that they were under pressure during the entire game.
"Naunahan sila ng goal," regretted Atienza which he thinks led to their loss over Unit I.
Unit IV futsal team bagged the silver medals while Unit I squad secured the bronze medals. The 2023 Palarong Quezon futsal tourney was concluded at Paiisa Covered Court, March 5.
