SAN ANTONIO QUEZON- In an unpredictable opening day in Palarong Quezon 2023 Elementary Softball Girls knockout game, BonPen sluggers ended up booking ticket to the winners-take-all finals.
This came about after BonPen batters made quick work of Unit II in five innings, 19-13, Saturday at San Antonio Central School, San Antonio, Quezon.
"I always tell the team to focus. Piliin ang bolang papaluin at sikaping maka homerun." BonPen Head coach Brylle Moris said.
Seeing how Unit II played their bats in the first inning, BonPen became a little complacent of their hits that gave the home-based team a boost resulting to 7-3 run in the end of second inning.
Still down by three entering the third inning, Unit II figured in a nightmare frame, allowing 7-4 run until the last inning turned game into rout.
Rebecca Canlas was on fire on bat, giving a perfect three built and a homerun. Britney Kaye Mandugay had three while April Jane Villanueva delivered a couple as well.
"Kinakabahan po ako, pero kapag naririnig ko po yong nasigaw ng 'one hit batter, one hit.' iniisip ko na lng po na kaya ko gawin yong sabi ni coach na patamaan ang bola." Canlas said.
"Yon ang maganda kapag nakakauna ka, nagiging confident ang iyong pitcher. Kaya work hard. Train hard pa." added Moris.
BonPen will face the defending champs Unit 4 batters in a winners-take-all Finals match tomorrow, March 5, Sunday at San Antonio Central School, 8am.
