Elias A. Alicaya, DepEd Quezon’s OIC Schools Division Superintendent, stressed in his message during the solidarity meeting of Palarong Quezon 2023 that players competing should not be stressed with the submission of academic requirements during the course of the games, but instead be given support, proper food, and enough sleep and rest in order to better prepare and focus on the sports meet.
“Huwag ng pag-isipin pa ang mga players ng mga activities na need nila i-comply. Bigyan sila ng suporta at tamang pagkain; i-monitor ang tulog at gising,” he said during the simultaneous opening ceremonies of Palarong Quezon 2023, March 3, 2023, at Quezon National High School Gymnasium.
The SDS further said that the selected players who will compete in the Regional Sports Competition (RSC) have only 19 days to prepare before the March 24-25 event at the Schools Divisions of Dasmarinas City, Imus City, and Cavite City.
“After March 5, uuwi ang players para makapagpahinga on March 6, then balik sa training starting March 7. From there, mayroon lamang silang 19 days bago sumabak sa RSC,” he explained.
In line with this, he encouraged teachers to give players other learning modalities such as shifting from face-to-face classes to MDL (Modular Distance Learning) to catch up with the missed lessons and activities.
“It takes a village to raise a child – hindi po namin kakayanin sa DO lamang, kung kaya’t pinakikiusapan ko po ang mga teachers na tulungan kami sa paraang kaya nilang gawin upang kayanin natin ang RSC,” he said asking the teachers to give their full support to the players.
Relatively, the SDS declared of the Palarong Quezon 2023 opening in which the meet will last till March 5 in different venues such as Quezon NHS where most events will be hosted, Tiaong, San Antonio, Lucban, Atimonan, Gumaca, and Lopez.
In the same light, Jennifer E. Lopez, National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP) Director who also graced the opening ceremonies shared her three-point rule in order to win upcoming higher meets.
“Even when I was the EPS-in-charge of Campus Journalism in CALABARZON, tatlo lamang naman po ang panuntunan ko: get the right people to be part of the team, develop them to become halimaw, walang kinatatakutan, and ensure that the system set is available,” she said.
“At syempre, huwag mawawala ang dasal at tiwala,” she added.
This year’s palaro will utilize a different approach compared to the previous games as events participated by 2, 561 combined players and coaches will happen simultaneously all over Quezon province on March 4 and 5, 2023 with QNHS hosting Taekwondo, Swimming, Dance Sports, Chess, Badminton, Tennis, and Volleyball.
Meanwhile, a total of 521 players will be selected to compete for the RSC.
Amid the face-to-face conduct of the games, the school health section strictly reminded all participants to still observe the minimum health protocols in relation to CoVid19.
