Understanding CALABARZON’s Reach, Read, and Rise (3Rs) and its alignment to the DepEd CO’s Bawat Bata, Bumabasa (3Bs) Initiatives, and DepEd Quezon’s Project Spotlights were emphasized during the Quezon English Language Teachers Association (QUELTA) General Assembly held online via Zoom platform on June 20 and June 22, 2022.
Education Program Supervisor in English Mr. Abner Pureza clarified that the 3Rs is substantially not another literacy program, but a support to CO’s 3Bs initiatives and to the existing reading programs of the 22 SDOs in CALABARZON. EPS Pureza further explained that the idea of 3Rs is inspired by the 3Bs serving as the program’s legal basis, the 3Rs’ monitoring and exit assessment will be the RO’s job while the program implementation will be the SDO’s concern.
“The implementation of 3Rs is pegged on interfacing of the 3Bs and Project Spotlights of DepEd Quezon. There’s an integration of pedagogies and processes, and the goal is the same which is geared towards an improved literacy,” EPS Pureza cited.
Meanwhile, Dr Lorena Walangsumbat, Chief of the Curriculum Implementation Division (CID) urged the participants to strengthen reading programs in schools and extend full support to English curriculum’s PPAs by intensifying a culture of reading.
About 149 Elementary teachers in English and 408 secondary English teachers joined the assembly which was held separately: June 20 (Elementary), and June 22 (Secondary).
Mr Reniel Quisao, a certified Google teacher handling Media Arts under the Special Program in Journalism (SPJ), and Special Program in Foreign Language (SPFL) Korean at Quezon National High School shared Learners’ Reading Progress through MS Teams, Mr. Herbert Doce, a master teacher from Atimonan National Comprehensive High School discussed Program for International Students’ Assessment (PISA) Framework, while Mrs Luzviminda Ware, QUELTA president for secondary presented the organization’s accomplishment report.
Mr Alvaro Monzon Flavier (June 22) and Ms. Melanie Sario (June 20) hosted the assembly while QUELTA officers for both elementary and secondary served as members of the technical working group. #
