The Quezon Convention Center buzzed with excitement as the Quezon Educators Research Convention (QERC) brought together teachers and employees from Congressional District IV together with Burdeos of Congressional District I on September 15 in Lucena City.
To kick off the day, the convention began with high-energy performances from the participants, who dazzled the audience with a lively TikTok dance and a spirited yell.
Following this vibrant opening, Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) Rommel C. Bautista delivered a powerful speech, highlighting the significance of ongoing professional development. “Walang higit kanino pa man ang tunay na nakakaalam ng sitwasyon sa loob ng silid-aralan kundi ang ating mga guro,” Bautista said, emphasizing the importance of research and continuous learning in enhancing teaching practices.
In addition, Assistant Regional Director (ARD) Loida N. Nidea delivered an inspiring keynote address, stressing the importance of integrating research into educational practices. “My dear teachers, when you find the strength in love, you do not need to work at all because every day you will love your work,” Nidea said as she concluded her speech.
Meanwhile, Quezon District IV Congressman Atty. Mike Tan provided an update on local infrastructure improvements, promising completed school buildings and increased funding.
Vice Governor Anacleto "Third" Alcala III discussed local policies aimed at strengthening education. He noted that they are working on ordinances, resolutions, and incentives to support educators, along with updates to the revenue and tax codes.
Turning to broader support, Governor Angelina “Doktora Helen” Tan addressed various school concerns with a promise of assistance. “It is our commitment to the community. Ibigay ang kayang ibigay,” Tan stated. She highlighted recent contributions, including new covered courts, transformers, and classrooms, and announced a future scholarship program for advanced degrees.
One of the day’s highlights was the raffle draw, which featured PHP 415,000 raised through generous donations from Senator Imee Marcos, Gov. Helen Tan, Doc Kim Tan, Cong. Mike Tan, Board Member (BM) Derick Magbuhos, and BM Harold Butardo. The funds were raffled to teachers, with a motorcycle as the main prize, adding a celebratory touch to the event.
At the heart of the convention, research presentations showcased groundbreaking work aimed at enhancing educational practices. Charlene Joy G. Oliveros from Alabat Island National High School explored the use of mobile phones in grammar learning, while Joseph T. Bathan from Calauag West District presented strategies for improving mathematical problem-solving skills. Danilo P. Parco from Maliga Integrated High School offered insights into instructional innovation and ICT utilization. Each presentation provided a glimpse into the future of education, showcasing the innovative spirit of Quezon’s educators.
As the event concluded, certificates were awarded to the performers, the technical working group, and the research poster and oral presenters.
Dr. Roselyn Q. Golfo, OIC-Office of the Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, delivered the closing remarks with appreciation. She also clarified that incentives would be given to those who could not attend in person and detailed the total amount that teachers would receive.
As the day ended, teachers departed with renewed inspiration and enthusiasm, ready to apply new ideas and embrace the importance of research in their teaching practices.
