LUCENA CITY, QUEZON– As the kick off of National Teachers’ Month (NTM), the Provincial Government of Quezon led the conduct of 2024 Quezon Educator’s Research Convention day 1 in Quezon Convention Center at Lucena City, September 7.
With the theme "Empowering Educators: Strengthening Resilience, Building Sustainability through School-Based Research," teachers from the second and third congressional districts, including Tiaong, San Antonio, Dolores, Candelaria, Sariaya, Padre Burgos, Pitogo, General Luna, Macalelon, and Unisan, participated on the research convention.
The DepEd Quezon Koro Kalilayan set the tone of the event by leading the National Anthem, doxology, CALABARZON March, and Quezon Hymn. The day kicked off energetically, with each district presenting lively TikTok dances and yells, showcasing the participants' spirit and enthusiasm.
Dr. Venus Balmedina, OIC Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, warmly welcomed the attendees. In her remarks, she emphasized the pivotal role of educators in shaping young minds and strengthening the foundation of education. She underscored the importance of equipping teachers with the skills necessary for conducting research.
Dr. Balmedina concluded by highlighting the vital role of teachers as heroes, defining HERO as Hope, Enrichment, Research-Oriented, and Omnicompetent.
“Ang SDO Quezon ay laging nagbibigay ng serbisyong sapat at tapat,” Balmedina said.
Moreover, Loida N. Nidea, CESO V, Assistant Regional Director of CALABARZON, delivered the keynote address. She began by recognizing the transformative power of teachers, saying, "Without teachers, life has no class."
Drawing from her personal journey, she shared her experiences as a secondary PEHM teacher before rising to her current position, emphasizing resilience, patience, and passion. Her message resonated with the theme of the convention, leaving participants inspired and motivated.
Meanwhile, Mr. Fourth Alcala, representing Vice Governor Anacleto Alcala III, delivered a message highlighting the significance of research in sustaining educational practices. He praised the educators' commitment to enhancing education through research-based initiatives.
The convention’s highlight was the address from Governor Angelina "Doktora Helen" Tan, who candidly acknowledged the challenges in the province's education system.
She assured the attendees that while not all issues could be addressed immediately, there were promising developments in store. These included a comprehensive teacher training program aimed at improving reading comprehension, a proposed masteral scholarship program, and a plan to increase teacher incentives by Php 1,000.
The major part of the convention was the presentation of research studies conducted by Quezonian educators. Mr. Jayson Libit of Kinabuhayan Elementary School – Dolores presented his research on “Teachers’ Work-Life Balance as a Mediator in Instructional Supervision Practices and Organizational Performance.” This was followed by Mr. Fernan Reduta of Villa Reyes Elementary School – San Narciso 1, who discussed his work on “Improving Grade 6 Learners’ English Spelling Ability Integrated with Reading and Writing Domains through FOOD + CARTS.” The session concluded with Mr. Joseph Quizon of San Antonio National High School – San Antonio, who shared his study titled “Comic Mathematics: Instrument in Increasing Academic Participation and Enhancing Computational Accuracy of the Students in Mathematics 10.”
To add to the excitement, the day featured raffles and performances by talented educators and students from SDO Quezon, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and joy.
Dr. Joepi Falqueza, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent of the Division of Quezon, delivered the closing remarks, concluding a day filled with inspiration, learning, and collaboration.
The 2024 Quezon Educator’s Research Convention promises to continue empowering educators throughout its series of sessions, focusing on resilience, sustainability, and the transformative power of research in education.
