Aimed to address reading gaps among learners, the Schools Division of Quezon conducted virtual orientation cum launching of the Project Spotlights, the division Reading Program on May 20-22.
SDS Catherine P. Talavera, CESO V gave her inspirational message citing the role of reading program in raising the performance among DepEd Quezon learners. She said that reading comprehension has domino effect to all learning areas.
“One who cannot read and comprehend cannot also process problem solving in Math. Comprehension is indeed a pre-requisite,” the SDS pointed out.
The superintendent congratulated the Project Spotlights’ team and the participants, at the same time challenged them to channel full energies to the reading program.
Dr. Lorena S. Walangsumbat, CID Chief handled the first session focusing on the scope and goals of the research-based division reading program (Project Spotlights).
Dr. Juanito A. Merle, EPS English for Elementary presented the definition of terms, responsibilities and policies embedded in Project Spotlights.
EPS Maria Daylin Garcia talked about the procedural flow, resources needed, strategies and evaluation of the program.
Dr. Nimpha D. Reyes shared her best practices on activities for developing oral language, experiential background, auditory and visual discrimination, and perceptual-motor skills as part of beginning reading.
Miss Malou M. De Ramos gave demo-lecture on beginning reading in the MTB way and some tips on how to teach reading with fun and enjoyment.
Miss Grace U. Salvatus, Mr. Rodil D Briones, and SH Celerina M. Abaricia discussed on activities for developing vocabulary and word identification.
