A jampacked of 1,620 teachers from DepEd Quezon, Lucena, and Tayabas City divisions joined the 14th Mathematics teachers’ convention and general assembly that featured audio-video presentation of best practices, innovations, Continuous Improvement Project (CIP) and action research designed to elevate the standards of the subject’s teaching – learning delivery.
Themed as Redesigning Mathematics: Enhanced Students’ Success, the event was held at the Quezon Convention Center on August 15, 2022 hosted by Mathematics Teachers’ Association of Quezon (MTAQ) with Education Program Supervisor Dr. Celestina Alba as the organization’s adviser.
EPS Alba also gave words of encouragement for the teachers to continue channeling support to Mathematics Projects, and Activities (PPAs), and MTAQ president Mr. Pablito Inojosa of Quezon National High School welcomed the participants.
Dr. Lorena Walangsumbat, Chief of the Curriculum Implementation Division (CID) acknowledged in her message the participants’ active support to the PPAs of the learning area.
Meanwhile, Mr. Manuel Butardo, Provincial Administrator delivered words of inspiration on behalf of Honorable Helen Tan, provincial governor of Quezon Province while Engr. Sheena Estaño, LEDIPO Lucena City represented Lucena City Mayor Mark B. Alcala in giving inspirational message.
Virgilio Prudente, Chairperson of the Institute for the Advancement of Vedic Mathematics graced the occasion as the guest speaker. Prudente is known to Mathematics enthusiasts as Sir Ike, the founder of Math-inic Philippines.
The guest speaker is also famous for being the ‘mind’ behind the 25 Math Shortcuts’ and Algebra Made Easy as Arithmetic. Also, as the chairperson of Vedic Math, Prudente opened doors for Filipino Math learners to participate in the International Vedic Mathematics Olympiad.
In his speech Prudente shared easier steps in multiplying, dividing, getting the GCF and LCM, finding the digital roots, and other math-related matters.
“I am sharing with you the shortcuts which are not only strategically fast when it comes to calculation, but also befitting for all cases as prescribed by the techniques,” Prudente mentioned.
Aside from presentation of best practices, CIP, and action research outputs, the occasion also served as chance for teacher to showcase talents dancing as the IDM 2022 winners in Math Tiktok challenge rendered an intermission number.
Bobby Tolentino and Alyssa Anilao anchored the first three parts of the program in the morning while Camilo Flores and Vanessa Anilao were the masters of ceremonies in the afternoon.
