Five DepEd Quezon students emerged victorious in the recently concluded Regional Science and Technology Fair (RSTF) held online from June 27 to July 1. The awarding ceremony was held on July 8.
Four of them advanced to the National Science and Technology Fair (NSTF) slated on August 1-5 via virtual platform.
Topping the LIKHA – Research Proposal, Physical Science category were John Benedict Z. Maxino, Dixie S. Padua and Dabid Kyle P. Lucila all from Quezon Science High School who eventually qualified to the national level. Dulce C. Regulto acted as the team’s coach.
The team’s research on Para Grass (Brachiaria mutica) as an Additive Component for the Optimization of Low-Density Polyethylene Plastic and Polystyrene as Synthetic Pyrolytic Fuel for Gasoline – Based Vehicular Use was a clear standout in the contest.
In the individual category, Arabella P. Pua, also from Quezon Science High School romped with the first place in Robotics. Dulce C. Regulto was Pua’s coach/ trainer.
Pua’s research on IoT-Based Device using Raspberry Pi and Arduino Uno as an Automatic Monitoring System for Aqua Farms snatched the judges’ nod.
In a related event, Sophia Clodette O. Valeña of Paaralang Sekundarya ng Lucban Integrated School was declared second place winner under the #STEMtokperiments, Senior High School Category with her coach Grace Joy A. Salumbides.
Carmela Ezcel A. Orogo, Education Program Supervisor in Science and Technology, SDO Quezon served as the focal person for this endeavor.
The competition was in preparation for the NSTF with the theme, Expanding the Horizon: Futures of STEM to be conducted virtually due to varied levels of COVID -19 restrictions being implemented across the country, in coordination with the regional offices and partners.
This year’s NSTF is mandated in DepEd Memo No. 38, s. 2022 that focuses on cultivating innovation, and creativity amid the changing world. The NSTF also aims to showcase the competence of the learners in addressing community problems for sustainable development and to maximize their potential of being inquisitive and creative in dealing with real-life problems.
