In preparation for the Division-wide DRRM activities for School Year 2021-2022, the Division DRRM Core Group convened at the SDO-Quezon Library Hub on May 27, 2022 to strategize systematic plans of activities. Schools Division Superintendent Elias A. Alicaya Jr., and SGOD Chief, Elizabeth M. De Villa graced the activity giving salute to all the DRRM coordinators and focal persons in the Division of Quezon. SDS Alicaya Jr. challenged the team to lay down all the projects in DRRM and let the top management know about those projects for fund allocations. The SDS also encouraged the DRRM team to review all the previous projects whether they should be put on hold, redesign or be carried out depending on their effectiveness to the clients. “Miscommunication and lack of communication are prevalent among the number of schools in the Division of Quezon. This includes late reception of memoranda and correspondences due to poor internet connectivity of most of the schools in the province and the lack of communication channels. It is suggested that the DRRM team must prioritize designing plans to solve the existing problems in communication lines since these are essential to disaster preparedness and response,” SDS Alicaya mentioned. The SDS suggested that the team must strategize on how to activate the use of two-way radios connecting the SDO and the schools in the entire province. The SDS added that the DRRM team may coordinate with the top management for the needed funds to execute the team’s plan. Meanwhile, SGOD Chief Mrs. De Villa paid tribute to all the DRRM focal persons for voluntary rendering services. De Villa mentioned that the schools must be proactive in disaster management and that everyone must be ready for the unforeseen disaster that might occur anytime. “Everyone must be adaptive or adjusted to what is happening in our surroundings and must learn how to be resilient to disasters. DRRM coordinators must initiate activities educating the community on how to be disaster ready based on the common hazards in their locality to avoid re-occurrence of the same tragedy that happened in Real, Quezon,” De Villa pointed out. In the same event, PDO II and the Division DRRM Coordinator Arvin Repaso explained the purpose of the meeting explaining the I’s Safety, which is one of the Division DRRM programs. “I encourage all the participants to reassess the situation and achievements to identify how far school DRRM has gone in terms of disaster mitigation and preparedness,” Repaso said.
