To inform and inspire the Third Congressional District teaching and non-teaching personnel of SDO Quezon’s major feats in 2021 through its research-based initiatives on management and curriculum, the fifth day of the Quezon Educators’ Research Convention (QERC) was held at the Quezon Convention Center, Lucena City, January 4. The event featured the findings of Project DeVOLVES (Deconcentration of Vital Operations for Leveraging Volumes of Education Services) of the Office of the Schools Division Superintendent (OSDS), and Project 2N-AIP (New Normal - Appropriate Instructional Practices) of the Curriculum Implementation Division (CID), including two other researches on Kindergarten teaching and learners’ attendance monitoring. In his welcome remarks, OIC-ASDS Herbert D. Perez pointed out the ability of research to turn the unknown to reality. He also urged the teachers to experience the power of research by applying their learnings in their respective classrooms. “Let us utilize all the learnings from the findings of the researches for us to improve teaching methods and strategies and ensure quality outcome of our learners,” OIC-ASDS Perez said. Guided by the theme “Research Initiatives in the New Normal: Relevant and Significant”, the four researches highlighted practical innovations that can be replicated. One of the presentations was the “Feasibility Study on the Establishment of Sub-offices of the Schools Division of Quezon” which was authored by Dr. Elias Alicaya Jr., OIC-SDS, and Dr. Peter Andrew G. Regencia, Principal I of Pitogo Community High School. During the presentation, Regencia discussed the background, factors, risks, challenges and technical feasibility of Project DeVOLVES which primarily aimed to expand service horizons through deconcentration of major office processes in the newly established sub-offices. Another study introduced was titled “Utilization of Project 2N-AIP in Reinforcing Supervision of Instruction in the New Normal” which was conducted through the CID by Chief Education Program Supervisor Lorena S. Walangsumbat, together with Education Program Supervisor Juanito A. Merle and OIC-ASDS Gregorio T. Mueco. EPS Merle reiterated that Project 2N-AIP has aided schools in DepEd Quezon in ensuring that learning happens even during the pandemic. Through this project, every school was given technical assistance to guarantee unhampered delivery of quality education to Quezonian learners. On the other hand, Jekah Bianca F. Empleo, Teacher I of San Isidro Elementary School, also presented her research titled “Fostering Cognitive Self-Help Skills in Early Childhood Development of Kindergarteners Using Kids’ Home of Learning (KHL).” Empleo discussed that the results of her research have proven that the KHL as an intervention manipulative is effective in helping students think and reason in more meaningful ways. The final research presenter was Eduardo M. Talaman, Master Teacher I of Camflora National High School, who also shared about his study titled “Utilizing Quick Response Code: Efficacy of Scan Attendance Manager Application (ESAMA) in Camflora National High School.” In his study, Talaman made use of Quick Response Code to revamp the traditional way of checking students’ attendance. Based on the result, Project ESAMA was perceived effective in terms of reliability, efficiency, accuracy, usability and security. Talaman also added that the application is suitable to all types of Distance Learning Modalities. To conclude the morning event, OIC-ASDS Gregorio T. Mueco expressed his gratitude to the Provincial Government, SDO Quezon Technical Working Committee, Research Presenters, and Teaching and Non-teaching Personnel who contributed to the successful conduct of the five-day research convention.
