Inspired by its theme, “Research Initiatives in the New Normal: Relevant and Significant,” the second day of the Quezon Educators’ Research Convention (QERC) 2021 was held at Quezon Convention Center with all the teaching and non-teaching employees of the districts of Dolores, San Antonio, Tiaong 1 and Tiaong 2, December 28, 2021. Ms. Maricel C. Presto, Master Teacher I of Bukal Elementary School, presented her study titled “The Use of Marungko Approach and Improving Recognition Skills among Grade 1 Struggling Readers.” It was said to be an effective approach in teaching learners who are beginning to read and experiencing difficulties in word recognition. Agdan, Teacher III of Dolores Central School; Ms. Arlene P. Coronado, Education Program Specialist II for ALS; and Ms. Marissa J. Baron, Teacher II of Sta. Lucia National High School shared their findings about “Problem-Based Learning Worksheet as a Tool to Enhance the Mathematical and Problem-Solving Skills of ALS Learners amidst COVID-19 Pandemic.” The output of this study will be beneficial to ALS learners, especially now that in-person teaching is a challenge in many learning centers in the province. Ms. Michelle G. Duma, Educational Program Specialist II of SDO Quezon, was the final presenter. She discussed about the application of Gender and Development concepts in school programs, activities and projects (PAPs), specifically on mainstreaming, thus dubbed “Developing Gender Mainstreaming Plan for Gender-Responsive Public Schools in DepEd Division of Quezon Province.” Said GM Plan is expected to aid both elementary and secondary schools in integrating GAD into the school’s PAPs so that the education sector can contribute to the Sustainable Development Goal of achieving gender equality. Today’s research convention was opened through messages rendered by OIC-ASDS Dr. Herbert D. Perez and OIC-SDS Dr. Elias A. Alicaya Jr. who both thanked the participants for their dedication in teaching despite the pandemic. “We are builders of our nation. Ang bawat guro ay bayani,” ASDS Perez told the crowd.
